Radford University Shooting: Radford University Under ‘Secure in Place’ Order Following Nearby Shooting
RADFORD, VA — April 17, 2025 — Radford University is currently under a “secure in place” order after a shooting was reported just off campus Thursday afternoon. According to city officials, the incident occurred at the 1400 block of East Main Street, a location near the university’s main campus.
The university issued multiple emergency alerts urging students, faculty, and staff to remain indoors and avoid the area. “Radford Alert! Main Campus. Urgent: SECURE-IN-PLACE. The city reports a shooting occurred at the 1400 block of East Main. Avoid the area. Police are on scene. More info to follow,” read the initial alert from university officials.
Radford City Police have confirmed that two individuals were shot. The condition of the victims has not yet been released.
Authorities are currently searching for two suspects described as Black males. One is said to have dreadlocks and was last seen wearing a white shirt with yellow and red, while the other was wearing a green long-sleeved shirt. Law enforcement is urging anyone with information about the suspects or the incident to contact them immediately.
Police are actively on the scene, and the area around East Main Street remains blocked off as investigations continue.
