GILBERT, AZ — April 17, 2025 — A 15-year-old student at Highland High School has died by suicide, according to a statement released by the Gilbert Police Department. The tragic incident occurred on Wednesday evening, April 16, and has left the school and local community in deep mourning.
Police were first alerted around 8:30 PM when the teen’s family reported that he had not returned home from school. Officers were able to trace the location of the student’s phone, which led them to the Highland High School campus. Upon searching the area, authorities discovered the teen deceased on school grounds.
While the investigation remains ongoing, authorities say there are currently no indications of foul play. Early findings suggest the student had been struggling with mental health challenges and anxiety leading up to his death.
“We extend our heartfelt condolences to the teen’s family, friends, and to the students and staff of Highland High School as we mourn this loss together,” said the Gilbert Police Chief in a statement issued Thursday morning. “This is a heartbreaking moment for our entire community.”
Gilbert Public Schools confirmed that classes at Highland High School would continue as scheduled, although staff are working to inform students, parents, and teachers about the tragedy. Counseling services and additional mental health resources are being made available to support those affected.
The student was identified as 15-year-old Jude Flores of Gilbert, AZ.
