Central Station Suicide – Sydney, Thursday, April 17 — A tragic incident at Central Station this afternoon has left one person dead and caused major disruptions to Sydney’s rail network during peak hour.
According to reports, emergency services were called to a platform at Central Station at approximately 4:40 pm following a self-harm incident in which an individual jumped in front of an incoming train. The person was pronounced dead at the scene.
The incident unfolded on one of the station’s packed platforms during the afternoon commute, leading to chaos and confusion as hundreds of passengers were evacuated from halted trains.
Multiple train lines have been affected, including the T1 North Shore and Western Line, T2 Leppington and Inner West Line, T3 Liverpool and Inner West Line, T4 Eastern Suburbs & Illawarra Line, T6 Lidcombe and Bankstown Line, T8 Airport and South Line, and T9 Northern Line.
Commuters have been advised to expect significant delays, longer travel times, and potential changes to scheduled stops and platforms. In some cases, services may be less frequent. 
Transport authorities have urged passengers to stay informed by listening to station announcements and checking transport apps for real-time updates.
Eyewitness accounts reflect the distress experienced during the disruption. One commuter said they were “stuck for an unknown amount of time” and recalled hearing an announcement over the speaker saying: “We will get through this together.” Another passenger noted that conductors informed them they would be “stranded for a while,” and that they had been instructed to evacuate through the front carriage via the driver’s door.
Sydney Trains has issued a travel alert for the T3 Line, specifically warning travelers to allow extra travel time due to the ongoing emergency services activity at Central. All passengers are reminded that stops and platforms may change at short notice.
The identity of the individual has not been released, and authorities have not provided further details about the circumstances surrounding the incident.
