Brian Witherspoon Clinton, IA Obituary: Shelly Leab Identified in Tragic Clinton, Iowa Murder-Suicide Involving Fiancé Brian Witherspoon

Clinton, Iowa — Authorities have identified the two individuals found dead in a Clinton home on Friday as Shelly Leab and her fiancé, Brian Witherspoon, in what is now being investigated as a murder-suicide.

The Clinton Police Department responded to a welfare check at a residence on the 900 block of Pershing Boulevard around 12:30 p.m. on April 18. Upon entering the home, officers discovered the bodies of Leab and Witherspoon.

Police have confirmed that the incident appears to be a murder-suicide and that there is no ongoing threat to the public. The investigation is still ongoing, and further details have yet to be released.

Shelly Leab, a respected local businesswoman, was known for her entrepreneurial spirit and community involvement. She worked as a realtor with Gateway Realty Group and was the owner of both Poopy’s Biker Bar and Grill and Legends Draft Haus & Golf Simulators. Those who knew Shelly describe her as driven, kind-hearted, and full of life.

Her fiancé, Brian Witherspoon, was a Clinton, Iowa, resident originally from Chicago, Illinois. He attended Simeon Career Academy and later studied at Clinton Community College. He and Shelly had been engaged and were seen by many as a close and loving couple.

The devastating news has left the Clinton community in shock. Friends, family, and local residents are mourning the tragic loss of a woman remembered for her hard work, hospitality, and dedication to her businesses and loved ones.

Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the deaths. No additional details have been released at this time.

  1. Oh how such a sweet, beautiful, gracious woman who had suffered a great loss of her own, could suffer such a horrible, horrible death. Whatever happened here, my condolences to Merle and Mary Lou, Shelly’s family also to all the Leab family.
